Canadian Women in Ministry Leadership 2005-2006
“Effective ministry can only be evaluated in the long term – it is a long obedience in the same direction.”(Eugene Peterson)
During the last five years, the energies and foci towards Women in Ministry/Leadership have been concentrated on six key areas, namely Networking; Partnering; Leadership training; Resourcing; Conferencing; Communiaction.
1) Networking:
- connecting women leaders informally in geographic locations
- connecting women leaders in vocational networks
- through conferences and leadership events
- encouraging networking ‘one-on-one’ or in small groups
2) Leadership Training:
- Biannual ‘Leading Women 2006’ conferences. These began in 2002.
- NextLevel Leadership: a partnership of five women leaders, (including Lynn Smith)
- Leading Edge Retreat/Seminars: initiated and sponsored by Women Alive
3) Resourcing:
- Resource materials are shared at conferences, networking events, and through LeaderLink newsletters
- Personal resources such as speakers, worship leaders etc.
4) Conferencing:
- ‘Leading Women’ biannual conferences
- Renaissance conference for lay women to equip them for community evangelism
- Just Give Me Jesus, an evangelism initiative for the Greater Toronto Area with Anne Graham Lotz
5) Partnerships:
- Leading Women conferences are a result of 15 national partners working together
- Renaissance is a result of approximately 20 partners
- Just Give Me Jesus, result of many Toronto city-wide partners
- National Prayer Wave: Over 20 organizations and denominations joined together in 2005 for a day of continuous prayer for the nation of Canada. May 2006 will see another such event (Transforming)!
6) Communication:
- LeaderLink bi-monthly newsletter: encouraging through articles; providing resources; events calendar; book recommendations etc.
- Leading Edge E-Connection: a brief monthly communiqué including practical and spiritual tips and helps for women in ministry
Because of the number of areas addressed and the breadth of the nation, different women direct each area, each one working with a committee to accomplish the desired goals. The bi-annual Leading Women Conference provides an opportunity for all of us to be together.
To God be the Glory, Great things HE has done!
Respectfully submitted,
Eileen Stewart-Rhude,
Executive Secretary,
