Religious Liberty:
Egypt: Persecution, Challenge and Debate
Article 2 of Egypt's Constitution states that Islamic Law is the
principal source of legislation. Islamic (Sharia) Law thus defines the rest of the Constitution, including 'Article 46: The State shall guarantee the freedom of belief and the freedom of practice of religious rites.' But because freedom of religion is defined by Sharia, Muslims are not at liberty to leave Islam.
Laos: Crackdown Targets Hmong Christians
A Presbyterian missionary first brought the gospel to Buddhist, animist Laos in 1885. Whilst the ethnic Lao were resistant, the ethnic minorities were not. Thanks to Gospel radio and indigenous missionaries, the 20th century saw revivals amongst the Hmong and the Khmu which sometimes involved whole villages turning to Christ.
Iran: As repression escalates, Iranians grow restless
Iran's Islamic theocracy was created through the union of Shi'ite activism and Marxist revolutionary thought. In Iran Christianity is severely repressed. Citizens who are "born" Christian (non-Persians: traditionally-Christian ethnic minorities such as Armenians and Assyrians) are "protected" (graciously permitted to live) as long as they remain subjugated. It is forbidden for Christians to share their faith, and it is forbidden for a Muslim to change his religion.
North Korea: Crucial Summit 2-4 October
At present North Korea is rated the world's worst abuser of human rights and religious liberty. For more than 50 years the regime has maintained power through isolation, brainwashing and terror and by eliminating every threat (real and perceived) to its rule through executions and incarceration. The regime has a gulag of some 200 concentration camps and prisons where criminals and 'political' prisoners and their families to three generations are starved, beaten and slave-worked to death. Of the estimated 200,000 prisoners, some 70,000 are believed to be there on account of their Christianity.
North Korea: ". . .though your footsteps were not seen".
In June 2000, South Korean President Kim Dae-jung met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il in a historic inter-Korea summit. It was the first rapprochement between the North and South since the border closed in 1953. At that June 2000 meeting in Pyongyang, the leaders signed a landmark document committing the two states to work toward reunification by (amongst other steps) facilitating the reunions of families separated by the Korean War, improving economic cooperation and building a railway line across the heavily patrolled border.

Italy:
Italian Evangelical Alliance: Statement from the Italian Evangelical Alliance on Vatican's "Doctrine of Faith" Document - No Christian needs to be troubled by the recent document by the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith which reiterates the judgement that Protestant churches are not 'the' church because they are not united with the Roman Catholic Church. It is a conviction that is part of Catholic magisterium, e.g. Vatican II (Lumen Gentium) and Dominus Iesus (2000).

Nigeria:
Nigeria Evangelical Missions Assocation (NEMA): Silver Jubilee Events - This year, NEMA will be 25 years old on the Nigerian and global mission landscape. This is a landmark, which by every account, is worth celebrating with a sense of gratitude to God. Over 50 years ago Nigeria was one of the largest missionary receiving nations on the African continent. Today, God has transformed Nigeria into global missionary sending nation. We thank Him for this enablement.
Spain:
Alianza Evangélica Española: Statement from the Spanish Evangelical Alliance on the Papal declaration The following is only available in English. You may choose to use a free on-line translation service to assist.
Switzerland:
Swiss Evangelical Alliance (SEA): Evangelical Alliance Responds to Papal Declaration - The Church of Jesus is not an institution, but, rather, is made up of “those who are called out” (ecclesia). When people accept personally that Jesus died for their sins on the cross, when they turn from their sinful ways, allow themeselves to be renewed by the Holy Spirit, confess Jesus as Lord and follow Him – this is the Church. “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them”, Jesus says in Mt. 18:20.

Musalaha Team: Kids' Camp and Prayer Requests - This year a record-breaking number of kids attended Musalaha’s summer camp. On Monday afternoon, fifty Palestinian and Israeli children arrived at the Baptist Village and checked into their cabins. Kids who had been to camp before started off their parent-free week of fun by hunting down old friends; new campers began it with a little apprehension and nervousness, but quickly found new friends to set them at ease.
