Religious Liberty:
Russia: Proposed Changes to Law Threaten Religious Education
The existing Law on Religion in Russia says that everybody has a right to religious education in accordance with their preference, individually or together with others, and that religious organisations have the right to set up religious educational institutions. However, a non-Orthodox church trying to register a Christian educational institution is a tremendously difficult process with very little prospect of success.

Lebanon Falls
Iran-sponsored, Shi'ite dominated Hezballah does not want to govern Lebanon. What Hezballah wants -- indeed demands -- is freedom to ignore UN resolutions and re-build, re-organise and re-arm for war with absolute impunity.

Vietnam: Persecution persists despite some hopeful signs
Since missionaries arrived in Vietnam in the 16th Century,Christianity has played a significant role in national development. Overseas assistance in education and humanitarian sectors has contributed greatly to national development and still does. Despite this legacy of goodwill, Christians have historically experienced various forms of pressure and persecution.

Algeria: Persecution Spurs Debate
In February 2006 Algerian President Bouteflika signed the controversial 'Presidential Order Concerning Religion' which severely restricts Christian worship and practice.

Indonesia: Religious Liberty, Polarisation and Danger.
On Monday 9 June 2008, the Indonesian government issued Joint Ministerial Decree Number 199/2008 that imposes restrictions on members of the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam, banning them from spreading their religious practices and interpretations, on the pretext that they deviate from orthodox Islam.

Papua (Indonesia): Muslim-Christian tensions on a knife edge
According to ICG, the key factors behind escalating sectarian tensions are continuing Muslim migration from elsewhere in Indonesia; the emergence of new, exclusivist groups in both religious communities that have hardened the perception of the other as enemy; the lasting impact of the Maluku conflict; and the impact of developments outside Papua."

Zimbabwe: "We are being persecuted."
"Religious freedom" that is conditional on being a member of the State religion is clearly not religious freedom. "Religious freedom" that does not permit conversion is not religious freedom. Likewise, "religious freedom" that is conditional on political allegiance is not religious freedom.

Viva:
Are Christians Any Different?
The largest body of care for children is the Christian church. Down through the ages and right across the world the Christian community has been on the forefront of responding to the needs of children-at-risk.
