Maldives: Hope is Born - the struggle for liberty is just beginning.
Five hundred kilometres south-west of the southern-most tip of India is a series of coral atolls. Looking like a patch of emerald sequins, the Republic of Maldives stretches 885km across the Indian Ocean. It might look extravagantly beautiful, but the Republic of Maldives has long been one of the world's most repressive Islamic police states. This name synonymous with luxury and elite tourism is also synonymous with totalitarian dictatorship and violent political and religious repression involving gross human rights abuses.
Eritrea: Another Believer Tortured to Death
Pastor Leule Gebreab of Asmara's Apostolic Church 'disappeared' on 12 August. For weeks nobody has been able to learn anything of his whereabouts and he is believed to have been arrested. His wife is greatly distressed. On 19 August, 10 members of the Full Gospel Church were arrested as they worshipped in a house in Asmara. Some 2000 Eritrean Protestants are presently suffering for their faith under appalling conditions in prison.

UK: Sexual Orientation and Religious Liberty – UPDATE
The judicial review did not yield everything some Christians might have hoped for, but it has improved the situation considerably and for that the Christian Institute is to be commended. While the SORs will not be repealed and
Christians will not have an automatic right to abide by their consciences and deny certain services to peoples on account of their sexual orientation, the SORs have been narrowed and the harassment provisions have been quashed to preserve free speech.

Europe: Daring to Speak Up
By Julia Doxat-Purser, European Evangelical Alliance Socio-Political Representative & Religious Liberty Coordinator - This summer, Mats Tunehag, President of the Swedish Evangelical Alliance, has been in the middle of a media storm and public debate. And he’s delighted. In Sweden, it is illegal to “express contempt” for people on the grounds of race and skin colour, religion or sexual orientation. In practice, the police and courts have chosen to act to defend Muslims, Jews and homosexuals.
